What are Herkimer Diamond Quartz Crystals? By Lisa Monohan, RMT

Herkimer Diamond Quartz Crystals are double terminated quartz crystals found only in Herkimer County NY and a few surrounding areas of the county. Double terminated means they form a point at both ends. They are naturally formed and faceted by nature, millions of years ago.

They are found in outcroppings of dolomite rock, nestled in pockets referred to as vugs. Pockets can hold one Herkimer or hundreds of Herkimers! Most pockets sorround the herkimer in a clay type of mud. And then some have grown directly embedded into the rock, forming a matrix. The smaller sized Herkimers are usually crystal clear, with finely defined facets, resembling a true diamond…dazzling to the eye and uplifting to the spirit. The larger they are, the more likely they will contain rainbows, inclusions and/or "cloudy" areas.

The Herkimers are not true diamonds, but crystal. A true diamond in the rough, looks rather plain…needing a skilled person to cut, shape and polish the diamond to bring out the color, clarity and brilliance the diamond holds. Herkimers do not need trained hands. Nature has done that for you!

Herkimers are a Very High Energy Frequency Crystal. They are respectfully referred to as the Attunement Stone and the Dream Stone. Herkimers may assist in bringing energy into awareness and expanding that awareness. Putting a Herkimer under your pillow could aid in dream recall and help you in interpreting the dream. Herkimers can act as an amplifier, receiver and generator of energy. Energy that will offer a Divine Connection of Crystal Energy to balance and promote well-being on all levels.

After studying the Herkimer Energies for all these years, I have discovered that the shapes of the facets themselves, alter the energies a bit. Some of the shapes I have linked to Sacred Geometry and others are of their own worldly image. Once you have worked with the Herkimer Energy, the shapes, sizes and even colors for a time, they may let you in on their little secret to be of benefit to not only you, but the planet Earth as well.

Choosing your Herkimer Diamond Quartz Crystal by Lisa Monohan, RMT

This is an important beginning to your discovery or expanding awareness to this Crystal. Whether you are lucky enough to have a rock shop or metaphysical store nearby, or are searching online for just the right crystal, you can still choose one that will be compatible with your own energy.

Most often, when I am looking for a particular stone to work with, it just seems to literally jump right out at me. Or my eyes lock into it and I just HAVE to have it!

If you don’t get that connection right away, you can hold the palm of your hand just a couple inches above a group of crystals. Scan your hand and you might feel heat, pressure, a pulling sensation or a prickly sensation when your hand is above the crystal that is calling out to you. This normally only takes a minute or two at the most. And yes, this even works with the computer screen. Even if you already possess a couple crystals or more, you can do this with your own little crystal group.

And sometimes, crystals just knock on your door. Not in the literal sense, but in the form of a gift or manifestation. These are very special…no matter what type of crystal or stone. But a word of caution, these are the type that like to play a disappearing act on you. Just as mysteriously their appearances are…their disappearances are just as devastating. But Lo-And-Behold they return again, months or years can pass and as you are brushing your teeth, something is sparkling in the corner behind the bathroom door…scoop it up, put in under lock and key. Don’t forget to say Thank You!

Another little element to add, ask the seller where the Herkimer is from. I have read others who debate on the "Herkimers" found in China. They look similar to a Herkimer Diamond from NYS, and are sometimes offered as the real deals from NY, but their energies are a whole lot different. I have not extensively worked with these energies, so I cannot offer advice in that regard. Just be sure that if it is a Herkimer Diamond Quartz Crystal you are looking for, that is what you are getting. Most sellers have developed a good relationship with the suppliers or miners of their crystals. Don’t be afraid to ask about the mining process itself. We only use hand tools to mine the crystals, but some do implement heavy machinery and caustic cleansing methods to clean them up. I have noticed the crystals that have had a shock like that, take some time to get their energies back in order, so to speak.

So whether you choose your crystal or one chooses you, be humbled to its gift!
